The story
The rival of the F-22
Northrop and McDonnell Douglas built the YF-23 for the U.S. Air Force’s Advanced Tactical Fighter competition. Its diamond-shaped wings, V-tail and buried exhausts made it one of the stealthiest designs of its time.
In 1991 the Air Force picked the rival YF-22, which became the F-22 Raptor. Only two YF-23s were ever built, and both survive in museums. Its nickname: Black Widow II.
