The story
The jet troops love to hear
The A-10 Thunderbolt II was designed for one job: protecting soldiers on the ground. The whole airframe is built around the GAU-8 Avenger, a 30 mm cannon roughly the size of a car.
A titanium tub armors the cockpit, and the jet can keep flying with heavy damage. Pilots call it the Warthog, and the name stuck.
